The Trees Witness Everything

The Trees Witness Everything

Greetings from downtown Raleigh where the trees witness everything. Fact is, the trees witness everything where you are too. I will share more. But, if you are new here,  check out this link for a full description of the focus of this painterly blog. Now, on to the painting, ok?

Inspiration

Victoria Chang’s book “The Trees Witness Everything” is one of the sources of inspiration for this painting. I remember seeing her book in a local bookstore over a year ago. The format (much taller than wide) captured my eye first. I stalled buying it till just recently. It’s beautiful! Consider treating yourself to a copy.

Last Week’s Inspiration

Then, in last week’s post, I wrote about the noisy juvenile red-tailed hawks in our back yard. Guess what? They’re still here, learning the ropes and making lots of noise too. I went outside to paint them and decided to include a wider view.

Fortunately, resident bluebirds are still here too. They haven’t fledged yet.

In the midst of all this natural activity, our neighbor put his house on the market and moved away. So, we shall see what happens there too. Wiser people than I say it will be a “tear down.” That could add a whole new twist to what the trees, hawks, bluebirds and we witness.

So much motion in this painting! I love the angles and the curves and the teaser of the hawk on the branch! A very good piece to stare at for some time. There’s something about the scale of this view that is just fabulous to my eye!
