Surprising Colors Inside Seashells

Surprising Colors Inside Seashells

What are the surprising colors inside seashells? Oooh la la I can not wait to share with you today! But first, this is Virtual Post Card #7 from our Road Trip North 2023. And, I promise to share more about the surprising colors inside seashells here today. Try and say that three times fast, eh? But first, here is information about this blog. This is a place where, each week, I share my paintings, road trip musings, and inspiration. Whether this is your first or millionth visit here, hiya, hello and a warm welcome! I choose a theme to guide my paintings each year. To read about this year’s painting theme, check the description in this link here. Block Island Beauty Continues

I gathered the subject matter for this painting, during morning walks with Best Dog Ever (BDE) at Block Island last week. Perhaps the wide range of shells, their colors can be attributed to Hurricane Lee? It swept through Block Island with little to no damage.

And, if color is collateral damage from hurricanes, wowee, what a gift! Each of these shells in this painting were, shall I say, typical on the outside. But when I flipped them over, their insides were so beautifully colorful. Can you see the purple-ish in the crab? And, how about that yellow-gold in the shell in the lower left corner? Then there’s that deep blue inside the shell in the lower right of the painting.

Here’s a photo of the set up for this painting. It’s true that, as the shell dries, the colors are less vibrant. But even so, the colorful impression of each shell remained.

Why Surprising

Not sure if you have perhaps seen this kind of rich, luscious color in shells before? I, clearly, have not and was so caught up in the beauty of it all. And, that’s the simple reason for my surprise. Here’s the painting! Even though the title of this painting is a bit of a tongue twister, here are the details about it. “Surprising Colors Inside Seashells” is ~5×4 inches, painted in gouache paints on cold press paper. Yes, it’s for sale for $50 + $3.63 tax + $20 shipping = $73.63. Contact me here to purchase. I pinky swear promise to pop it in the mail to you as soon as we are settled back in North Carolina in a few days.

End of the Road Trip

This is the last Virtual Post Card from our Road Trip North 2023! Can you believe it? We returned to Raleigh North Carolina this week after having spent the last seven weeks on the road. The trip has been fantastic. I am so grateful for the painting, drawing, hiking, camping, visiting with friends and family, sightseeing, and all that has happened during this trip.

I have so many other paintings from this trip that I haven’t shared here. Some were completed in pretty rough conditions: high winds, black flies flying in my eyes, you name it! For now, I’m going to get settled back here in Raleigh. Work my way through piles of laundry! Clean the camper! And, savor the memories. I’ll let you know if these memories and images lead to studio paintings here. Stay tuned! And, thank you so much for reading and commenting here.

What a nice way to end your post card series, Julie. Just like these luscious sea shells were left, maybe, by Hurricane Lee!

Am I crazy or is there a hint of those inner colors in the shadows of the shells? (Another tongue twister – shadow of sea shells) To my eye, I see a soft extension of the inner colors. Just lovely! Should think it would remind people of the sea when they can’t get to a shore easily.

And, yes, I think your eye is spying some of those luscious colors in the shadows, too. xoxo
