Spring View 2024

Spring View 2024

What’s our spring view 2024? I’m excited to share!

But first, in case you’re new, here’s more information. This blog is a place where, each week, I share my paintings, process, art history, shows, road trips and inspiration. Whether this is your first or millionth visit here, hiya, hello and a warm welcome! I choose a theme to guide my paintings each year.

This year’s theme is Vessels, Views and Vistas. If you need more color in your world, consider subscribing to this weekly blog. When you do, you will also receive a monthly newsletter called “Art In Real Life.” In it, I share news about artwork and art walks. Some I have seen IRL (in real life). Others are from around the world, maybe even near you!? If so, maybe you’ll go see and share what it’s like to see art in real life. Let’s get to this week’s view. OK?

What’s Nearby

Lucky for us, there’s a park at the end of our driveway. And, in that park, is an oak tree with some whacky limbs on it. In fact, the limbs look as if they are open wide enough to engulf you in a great big hug.

I love that tree! And, so, this spring I decided to paint it before all the leaves came out. And, yes, this huge white oak tree has tons of leaves on it. Many of them don’t drop into our front yard until December each year. And, we have gotten to the point now, where we just pile the leaves up in our flower beds and leave ’em.

Maybe that’s why this year, we had a gazillion little baby oak tree saplings in our front yard. Anyway, here’s this week’s painting.

Spring View Painting

Isn’t this tree whacky and fun? I sure had fun painting it. It’s 12×12 inches, painted on panel and a part of a new series! So it’s not for sale just yet. Stay tuned for more details on that.

Short and Sweet

I’m keeping this week’s post short and sweet. Let me know if you prefer it this way? In other words, see a painting each week and/or a painting I’m working on but less writing. What do you think? I would love to hear your preferences in the comments below.

Funny how different the shape of an oak without leaves is. This one looks like it has big open arms. Fun painting.

Your posts are, clearly, part of my Thursday reads. I don’t feel strongly about length and content. Your more personal posts that blend painting, colors and life always get me thinking. Overall, the more personal journey mixed with art journey posts make me contemplate why I don’t share more. Something I’m thinking about a lot these days.

Not very decisive or helpful but there’s one reaction.

      Hi Beth,

Reading your thoughtful comment makes me want to change the name of this painting to “Hugger Tree.” I definitely love, as you have written, they way the tree “has big open arms.” ;-D

Thank you for offering your perspective on reading here. I love the rhythm of writing about a painting (sometimes in progress) each week. But I wonder if I could refine what I write to focus more on what readers, including you, want. So thank you and stay tuned.

      xoxo
