Rogue Bloom

What do I mean by rogue bloom? I look forward to sharing with you. But first, here’s a warm (and bright colored) welcome to you. What happens here? I am glad you asked. Each week I share a colorful painting, a painting in progress or other painting related activities. My hope is these color clad images delight your eyes and lift your spirits! If you’re new here and would like to receive these weekly posts, subscribe here. Let’s look more closely at this week’s painting in progress, OK?
Work in Progress
Here’s a sneak peak of a colorful painting in progress. It’s a 12×12 inch painting in oils on panel. The subject matter, rogue blooms, were outside my studio door. In fact, I am captivated by all of the beautiful blooms around us this year. The painting is from a small azalea bush that is bursting with bright red colors.
Why rogue? This bloom and two others had grown wayyyy above the rest. They each looked like colorful antenna. The bright colors have been a beautiful distraction from an otherwise unsettling, downright scary, spring. Here’s a glimpse.

Glimmer
There’s more glimmer and color coming to this painting. I can’t wait to work on it more! And, if you want to join in the groundswell of people fed up with the current state of affairs, join me this Saturday! We’ll be heading to the capitol for the Hands Off protest in downtown Raleigh. To find a protest near you, check out the Hands Off website. I know I know what the heck does a protest have to do with painting? Everything!
Both painting and protesting are ways of reaching out, communicating and connecting. And, remember, if we all participate, then we are living examples of the US Motto “E Pluribus Unum;” Latin for “Out of many, one.”
Pinky Swear Promise
Please, gentle reader, promise you will go to a protest near you! If you are planning to go, please let me know. I would love to hear from you in the comments below.

April 3, 2025Such a color these azaleas have! It’s so deep and luscious. Excited to see the end product.
Absolutely love the you statement about painting and protesting. I am trying to convince the workshop folk this weekend to go to a nearby protest for our lunch hour. I’m not in charge so we’ll see. I’ll probably run over to the gathering myself if no one else comes. We’ll see – DropKick Murphys – big band for the glory years of the Red Sox World Series wins – just announced they will be at the Boston gathering. That will be a energizing addition there!

April 3, 2025Hi Beth,
Thank you for noticing the luscious colors in the azaleas! More to come there.
Here’s hoping you and your workshop participants get to cause a little good trouble. I’ll be rooting for ya!!! xoxo
