Raleigh Hints of Spring Painting
It’s unusual to get Raleigh Hints of Spring in February. But not this year, gentle reader! And, now? It’s a whole different (read: chillier) story. More on this in a bit. But first, a warm welcome to each of you readers! If you’re new to this place, check out this link for a description of this year’s theme and the purpose of this blog. You can sign up to get a weekly dose of color and the studio activities by signing up here.
Stetting the Stage
I started this week’s painting over two weeks ago on February 28. The weather was balmy. In fact, it was warm enough for me to peel off a few layers of sweaters as I painted outdoors that day. Here’s a picture of the setting.
Isn’t that a glorious view? Even so, I had to honor this year’s theme, Time and Attention. How? I stashed this sweet painting away for awhile.
Temperature Drop
When I came back to this painting this week, the outside temperature had dropped to below freezing the last few nights. The solution? I can’t say how to solve our crazy climate activity. But I can say that an extra sweater or two indoors and some warm colors help me to manage this cold. In particular, I painted with more warm yellow, red and green paint. Here’s the warm, painterly and friendly painting outcome. It’s a 6 by 12 inch oil painting on panel. And, Raleigh Hints of Spring is SOLD!
What’s New
As I painted away this week I had some rambling thoughts running through my mind. For instance, I wonder if you, dear reader, are interested in seeing news and information about other painters who are working today. I say this because there are several, mostly women, who I have been so inspired by lately.
My thinking is I would share a separate, short and sweet newsletter-style format, of some of these sassy painting souls. Mixed in to these would be updates on activities here at this studio too. I can confirm that this will happen once maybe twice a month max. What do you think?
Please let me know what you are thinking about this idea. Even if it’s a…um…heck…no! Thanks as always for reading and looking today. I really appreciate it!

March 16, 2023What a painting full of the hope of spring! It is what I needed today. The 6″ of snow is melting fast but … still snow and, in the woods, lots of it. So I am happy to see some spring pinks, greens and blues. Just lovely. Where were you painting this?
I’m pretty much always happy to learn what others are up to, especially if it’s 500-1000 words and has a great image of some sort with it. Nice of you to consider doing this profile of painters and sharing it with us.

This painting view is just a mile or so from our house at a place called “The Cottage” at Dix Park.

March 16, 2023Hi Julie,
I can see why today’s painting was snapped up—lovely composition and the colored are very early Spring-y!
I too like the idea of a periodic newsletter showcasing work by some fellow female painters.
Keep up the great work!
Kristina

March 22, 2023Thank you Alexandra!
How wonderful that it makes you feel happy. Yay!
Ya I’m hoping for the day when I can paint these outdoor paintings in one session. But, you know how it is. You put a painting away for awhile, come back to it and there it is. The thing that needs more work or paint or tweaking, right?
Stay tuned and I look forward to sharing some new artists (and some not so new too) soon.
xoxo
