Sanctuary in Paint
I have always thought about capturing the view into our kitchen from my studiooo. Now I have finally done it. I hardly ever look out of my studio this way. Most of the time I close my studio door? Why? Well, the dishwasher might be running (hint hint) or the dog might start barking. So, I get to work without hardly ever looking at this view.
And, here’s this sa-weet view. I had a ton of fun painting it.

This painting will be on view, along with paintings, prints and photographs from 14 other artists, at the upcoming Forest Park Art Show on Sunday, April 13, 2025 from 2:00PM to 5:00PM. Come on by if you live in the area. The show is happening in a big, beautiful old house and gallery called the Brown House 1310 Hillsborough Street Raleigh, NC 27605. And, bonus, neighbor and fabulous print maker, Pam Van Dyk, will be on the front porch offering you the chance to make your very own print.
More Art News This Week
Friday night, March 28th, 2025 from 6:00PM to 8:00PM, I will be at the Cary Gallery of Artists’ 17th Annual Juried Small Treasures Exhibit. I’m excited to have work in this show for the first time! The gallery is conveniently located in downtown Cary at 200 S Academy Street Cary, NC 27511. There’s plenty of parking and some delicious, locally owned restaurants nearby. See you there?

March 27, 2025Beautiful painting, Julie! I really like this one. The perspective is well rendered; it really draws you in. I also enjoy the palette, values, and brushwork. Wonderful! My studio is definitely one of my oases as it takes me away from my thoughts. Of course anywhere outside or travel destination is a welcome oasis, too.
Enjoy tomorrow night’s opening! Very excited for you! xoxo

March 27, 2025Hi Alexandraaaa,
Thank youuuuu! And shazam – who would think I could nab perspective. HA! It’s wonderful to think of you painting in your studio sanctuary in the midst of all the mayhem. TY – as always – for your encouragement and painterly insight. Truly treasured! xoxo

March 27, 2025This is wonderful! The blue is a shade that appeals to me a lot AND I don’t remember it in your kitchen! I also like how the dishes are stacked up in the sink – clean I’m assuming! Makes it feel very real and lived in in the best sense of those words. That adds to the appeal for me.
Good luck tomorrow! Hope it’s nothing but a boost and a whole lot of fun.

March 27, 2025Hiya Beth! Well, I did take a whole bunch of artistic license with the actual colors of our kitchen. Because…well why not, eh? I’ve added a relatively new (to me) blue to my palette lately (Sevres Blue) and it is so luscious. TY for the good wishes and support – xoxo
