Floating on a Dream
Why name this post “Floating on a Dream,” gentle reader? So many reasons! Let me share why. But before I do, if you’re interested in seeing more about the purpose of this post and blog, check out this link for more details. Let’s get to all of this floating on a dream, shall we?
Who Is Floating
I am! And, I am borrowing the phrase “floating on a dream” from Avi Kaplan’s latest record release. The entire record is fantastic. But after this past weekend, I am enamored with the lyrics and sound of his song of the same name.
Consider listening while you read here if you’d like.
Here are a few more reasons I’m floating: I just had an opening at Stokes County Arts Council and sold 6 paintings! I am so thrilled that I feel as if…well…you get the idea…I’m floating on a dream.
Family and Friends
Reason number 2 for the big dream float? I just wrapped up a weekend spending time in one of my favorite campgrounds in the Southeast, Hanging Rock State Park, with some of my favorite people. Here’s a picture of our car, camper, the screen room and another tent, too.
We experienced rain deluges the first two nights. Don’t tell anyone but I felt so lucky that David and I got to spend the first night in the camper cots in the tent. Friends wouldn’t arrive till Friday. So we got to sleep with rain falling outside on the tent. Ahhhh! What an amazing sound in such a green and lush wonderful place!
Floating on a Dream Upstairs
The first morning, we were up and out on a hike early. If you haven’t seen the Lower Cascades at Hanging Rock, please add it to your bucket list. It’s an easy hike with a wonderful stone staircase. The falls were exceptional on that Friday morning thanks to the previous night’s rainfall. Here’s a photo of the staircase which looks a bit more daunting than it really is.
Seems this staircase is a good metaphor for lots of journeys including that of having an art opening. All I could do is take one step at a time. The ‘to do’ list was long but the preparation came one step after another. Right?
Another Reason for Floating on Dream
In the midst of the opening, seeing friends and family and hiking, I celebrated my birthday too. Gotta say, I am really grateful for the circumstances around this year’s birthday. And maybe I was just too busy painting to see all of this coming? But, I honestly never imagined I would celebrate my birthday this way. And, so I just feel thankful for every single minute of it!
Here’s one of the paintings that is sold and ready for it’s forever home. It’s called Complimentary Skies.
Show Dates
Before I sign off, I wanted to share that the show continues until Thursday, June 30th. So, if you are in North Carolina this summer between now and then, please visit Stokes County Arts Council 500 N. Main Street Danbury, NC 27016. The gallery, gift store, coffee and ice cream are sure to delight you. And, as of today, June 1, 2022, the gallery and store hours are Monday – Friday 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sunday noon to 6 p.m. Enjoy!
Thank you for reading today gentle reader! I’m about to hop off all of these clouds and dreams and get back to the studio. There are so many ideas percolating here. I can’t wait to see where they lead. How about you? I hope you have some projects calling you this summer? If so, please do share in the comments below and take care.
