Dancing Leaves
Where oh where are Dancing Leaves? You guessed it! Everywhere we look right now. But there’s more to share too. Such as? Well, such as the details about this color corner right here. Whether it’s your first or gazillionth visit here, I hope you feel a warm (and colorful) welcome. Each week I share a colorful painting for you to see. My hope is that these colorful, affordable paintings will delight your eyes and – hopefully – lift your spirit or mood! If you’re new here and would like to receive these weekly posts, subscribe here. Let’s look more closely at this week’s painting, shall we?
Waltzing in Wonderland
As I have shared in the past, I love walking outdoors. This time of year, I especially love walking and picking up the leaves. Most mornings, I bring a handful back and start to draw or paint them. I love their shapes, colors, and smells. I even love the crunchy sound leaves make when I accidentally step on one here in the studio or outdoors.
Here’s a few views of this painting in oils. It’s painted on a cradled panel. So this means it’s ready to hang on the wall without a frame. Let’s take a look at it up close. OK?
This delightful oil painting is cradled in a 2 inch wooden cradle. Meaning? This means the painting has a wooden frame attached to the back. This supports the painting’s panel so that the painting is ready to hang.
A Few Reminders
Here is a reminder about an upcoming studio sale. It’s in my neighborhood! Here are the details:
Forest Park Art Walk
Saturday, November 16th from 2:00PM to 5:00PM
Sunday, November 17th from 2:00PM to 5:00PM
If you tap/click on the Forest Park Art Walk link here you will see all the art walk details including our address and the addresses of each participating artist.
Remember, here in my studio, I will be selling 6×6 inch gouache paintings of leaves for $45/each. All proceeds from these original painting sales will go directly to provide relief for Western NC as it continues to navigate the aftermath of Hurricane Helene.
And You
How are you gentle reader? Have you noticed Dancing Leaves in your neighborhood? What are the colors like? Are they more or less vibrant than years past? I look forward to hearing from you in the comments below.

October 31, 2024Love the blue, Julie. What is its official color name? Also appreciate the up close photos of each side of the painting. Fun to see your work in that way.
Guess I’m curious why there aren’t leaves in the yellow – gold range? Seems as if that’s the most dominant color this fall. As always, I’ll pay closer attention to the colors now! Thanks.

October 31, 2024Hi Beth,
The blue is mixed with a few other colors so it’s not a straight ‘outta the tube’ blue. So thank you for asking! For this painting I guess we can call it “Dancing Leaves” blue?
Here in NC there are some yellow gold leaves. But my eye has been drawn to the deep (deep) crimson colors of the oak leaves and their more subdued blue-ish green leaf companions. It’s funny because I did pick up a bunch of gold and yellow maple leaves on yesterday’s walk. We’ll see if they find their way to into a painting!
TY for looking and commenting here. xoxo
