Big Painting in Progress

Big Painting in Progress

Ready to see this Big Painting in Progress? I’m excited to share it with you. But, first, if you are new here,  check out this link for a full description of the focus of this painterly blog. Now, on to this week’s painting, yes?

Define Big

So this painting is 22×28 inches. For those of you who have seen or collected my paintings, you know I tend to paint smaller than that. Such as? I love long horizontal formats and square formats. So you will see lots of 6×12 inch, 4×8 inch and 6×6, 8×8, 10×10 and a few 12×12 inch paintings.

Of course big for me is nothing compared to what I saw recently when I visited The Bo Bartlett Center in Columbus, GA. During my short visit there, I saw several magnificent huge paintings by Bartlett including this one called “Hiroshima.”

But! The real reason for my visit a few weeks ago was to see Zoey Frank‘s work in progress. She’s working on a HUGE painting during a 7-week residency at the Bo Bartlett Center. And, she gave a lecture about the painting. Here’s a link with a photo of her next to the painting. Now that’s a big painting, eh?

Ah time to come back to the real world now. Here’s this week’s painting in progress

Nearly there

I am excited about this painting in progress. And, I’m also glad to be giving it time. With time, I am amazed at how much more I can see might work and what I can leave out.

So exciting, Julie! Glad you’re doing a larger scale painting. And it looks lush and beautiful.

also so glad you introduced me to Bo Bartlett and his center. That video about his “Hiroshima” painting is fascinating and that is a painting rich with story and color. Bull urine!?! Wow. Thanks so so much for making me aware of him and his stunning art.

      Hi Beth!

      TY for your encouraging words!

The broooha over the pigment used in Indian Yellow is a bit over the top. Here’s a fun descriptive link with some thoughtful insights on the topic.

I really appreciate that you take the time to read and comment. xoxo
