It’s color study season! What does that mean? I promise I will share more. But, first, here’s a warm (and bright colored) welcome to this place. What happens here? I am glad you asked. Each week I share a colorful painting with you. My hope is these color clad paintings delight your eyes and lift your spirits! If you’re new here and would like to receive these weekly posts, subscribe here. Let’s look more closely at this week’s painting…er color study here, OK?
What Is A Color Study
A color study is the antidote for cold, blustery and grey days outdoors. They tend to be quick and fun. You might say they are the equivalent of doing “wind sprints” for runners. How? Oh – you set a timer, make sure all the colors are set up on your palette and your painting surface is ready. And, make sure you have what you want to paint, set up and ready to go. Next? Start the timer and woosh! Watch the painting unfold, quickly and sometimes, effortlessly. These brighten my days, remove expectation for having to complete a painting and are just fun.
Here’s the set up for this color study. And, there are bunch of these hanging out in the studio right now. Why? I’m in a mode where I’m experimenting, trying out new ideas, even playing.

This Week’s Color Study
Here’s this week’s color study. No it’s not for sale. I’m using it to inspire other ideas and more. The other color studies are different set ups. And, depending upon where I am in the process of finishing a painting, I will share them…or not.

This color study is small, 6×6 inches, and painted in oils on panel. I love the way the little sparkly glass candle ended up sparkling it’s sparkly on my blue studio eraser dog. How fun is that?
How About You
Are you trying any new or different experiments and/or color studies in your studio or life? If so, I would love to hear what they are. Who knows I may even incorporate what you are trying into my studio world. Thank you as always for joining me on this creative and colorful path.

January 23, 2025This is so much fun! Love everything about from the colors to the sparkles. You know about Blue Dog? I learned about him in New Orleans years ago – he seemed to be everywhere when I was there. Think he was a story character a Louisiana artist created. Your blue dog reminds me of that. Very fun and smile inducing.
